To go above and beyond, and a little wider, too. I like to think an education travels with us, finding new purpose in what we can share. A concept from physics becomes something a younger student can build with; a coding lesson becomes the beginning of an idea I would never have thought of myself.

(01) MAKING ROOM ✶

LEWIS HAMILTON

“Talent is everywhere, but not everyone is afforded the opportunity for career growth.”

For me, that starts with making room for someone to try. Through teaching and organizing, I hope to carry what I learn beyond school, while remaining open to what others can teach me.

CLOUDHACKS 2026

(A) THE IDEA

CloudHacks began with an idea I had to persuade other people to believe in. Leading a six-person team, I helped build it into a two-day student hackathon with around 150 signups. I handled most of our sponsor outreach and negotiations, securing over $15,000 in combined funding, in-kind perks, and services.

(B) BEFORE THE DOORS OPENED

I also coordinated the judges, while our team worked through the logistics and finances and gave the event its visual identity through artwork and photography. Much of my role unfolded before anyone walked through the doors, in conversations where an abstract proposal gradually became something we could put a date to. By the time students arrived with ideas of their own, ours had become a place to begin.

VOLUNTEERING AT NGOC AN CENTER

VOLUNTEERING AT NGOC AN CENTER

(A) THE FUNDING

Through the Vung Scholarship, a YouTuber-run fund for community projects and other partnerships, I secured $2,000 for the Ngoc An Center for Special Education. I led a project supporting the development of sensory intervention rooms across its centers in Vietnam, discussing plans with the CEO and purchasing equipment with the funding.

(B) THE DECISIONS BEHIND A NUMBER

The work brought me closer to the decisions behind a fundraising figure: what we could afford, where the equipment would go, and how it could support the children using those spaces. Through monthly meetings with the center’s manager, both online and in person, I was able to follow the children’s progress after they began using the equipment in the sensory room and better understand what was working in practice and what needed to be adjusted. Our wider efforts also included inclusive activities through which children with autism could make items for sale, giving their creativity a place in the project itself.

SAFE AND SMART

(A) THE TALKS

Through Safe and Smart, we reached 5,000+ students across Vietnam with cybersecurity education. I delivered talks at Newton Grammar School and other schools, both in person and online, while online sessions and brochures extended our reach to other provinces.

(B) THE QUESTION

We explored digital safety in the age of AI, including how deepfakes can lend a familiar face or voice to something fabricated. I wanted to make a complicated subject approachable, beginning with a question students could carry into their everyday lives: when something looks or sounds real, how do we decide whether to trust it?

ROWING

I first discovered how much I enjoyed being on the water while kayaking on a school expedition to Thailand through SJI International’s NYAA program. Around the transition from Grade 10 to Grade 11, I took up rowing with Ho Tay Boat Club, finding a reason to return to the water long after the expedition ended.

Around the transition from Grade 10 to Grade 11, I took up rowing with Ho Tay Boat Club, finding a reason to return to the water long after the expedition ended.

Since then, I’ve trained and competed in local inter-club races, as well as dragon boating at the Hanoi Lotus Festival in 2025 and 2026, celebrating the city’s cultural heritage. Rowing remains a casual pastime for me. I enjoy the shared rhythm of a boat, the attention each stroke demands, and having somewhere to go where my phone is best left alone.
